Press Release August 9, 2012 FRESH JUICE PARTY is proud to chalk in solidarity with OCCUPY LA and CHALK WALK! They’ve called a “Global Day of Action to Chalkupy” on August 9th. FJP will host a contingent from the bay area who will travel to Los Angeles to participate in this peaceful, all-ages event. Among FJP’s group is 2012 Vice-Presidential candidate, CINDY SHEEHAN! And we’ll be chalking alongside our friends, CODEPINK!

FRESH JUICE PARTY is prepared to challenge the notion that “sidewalk chalk is graffiti” on 1st Amendment grounds (pun intended). This is an issue that’s been arising around the country in recent days as political candidates make their fundraising rounds, and political chalk art is doused by kowtowing city officials.

FRESH JUICE PARTY’s weekly Chalkupy in Oakland’s Oscar Grant Plaza shares the spirit of LA’s Chalk Walk: Opening up a public space for all members of the community to come together to have their voices heard – regardless of age, race, physical ability, artistic skill – and to have fun, and get creative and messy with art. We all have a vested interest in seeing that political chalking (as we established with Oakland Police Department in this video) is not misconstrued as vandalism; it is protected speech and it is art.

TIMES NOW: …Do you think the American government will get you?
JULIAN ASSANGE: I don’t think so. But only because we have a lot of support. It really is like that, we have people supporting us, doing a lot in various levels from demonstrations in the street to just recently, just yesterday 12 people went to an Obama fundraiser, paid 5,000 dollars per person*, sat at the table and altogether got up and sung how unhappy they were with the White House’s treatment of Bradley Manning, our alleged source who is in military prison. That spectrum of support is what is keeping us strong, is what is keeping these forces at bay…

Fresh Juice Party is honored to be the target of a little good natured ribbing from Jon Stewart and The Daily Show! (FJP at 1:50)

We wrote and performed the protest song sung at a Presidential fundraising event in SF in 2011.  Our song criticized the lack of transparency in American politics. The political stunt made all kinds of international news because the President was just a few feet away from us and we were able to sing our message directly to him. But getting mocked by Jon Stewart for protesting too politely was the pièce de résistance! Mr. Stewart, FJP always blow kisses when we blow your mind…

While an impressive list of attendees physically gather in Berkeley, CA, there will be opportunities for contemporaneous online participation via Twitter #TruthCon, live streaming, chats, and possibly Skype for those who must attend remotely due to distance or desire to remain Anonymous. Please email us at info@freshjuiceparty.com to receive updates for online participation.
